So we went to ComiCon slash Fan eXpo and it was “teh shit”. Although “teh shit” was preceded by a tremendously long and demoralizing ticket line, it moved relatively fast considering the number of nerds per square meter in attendance. Bonus: as we were waiting in line Laura Vandervoort was talking on her cell phone mere meters away and damn, she is approximately five times hotter in real life than on Smallville. I think it had to do with the fact that she could do her own makeup and look like a hot twenty-something instead of an innocent perky Kryptonian teen.
Once we got in, it became immediately obvious that this year’s Fan eXpo was certainly not the Fan eXpo of two years ago. Hosted in another, significantly larger, part of the Toronto Metro Convention Centre, this year’s event was well air conditioned, well organized and at least two or three times the size of 2006’s. Comics, Science Fiction, Horror, Anime, and Gaming sections created a surreal and exiting new landscape to conquer. My only regret is not signing up for the Major League Gaming tournaments they had going on. That, and not getting to the mic during the question and answer session and proclaiming my undying love for her. Oh cruel fate. Speaking of which, while there Andrew manned the Canon (get it?) and got some great shots, I recorded some video with my standard def. Sony (YouTube video to follow soon). So go ahead, take a look and live vicariously through the eyes of middle class nerds with a standard one-day ComiCon pass! Seize the day, damnit!
Oh yeah and the comic has been updated with a better, cleaner art style than previously graced the pages of homebr00d. I tried to draw Scott more accurately, but godamnit he must be the most obscure featured person that I’ve ever met. His features are so general that they’re impossible to capture. You look at his face, even with a damn picture in front of you, yet somehow his weird Canadian and diluted ancestral Japanese heritage doesn’t translate to paper. Anyways, improvements will be ongoing, so if the couch changes colour a few times then you’ll know why—because it’s magic. Any weird changes or narrative inconsistencies? Magic.
